University of Konstanz

The University of Konstanz (UKON) is one of eleven universities in Germany whose institutional strategies are being funded by the Excellence Initiative and Strategy of the German Federal and State Governments since 2007. Interdisciplinary and international cooperation, support of junior researchers, knowledge and technology transfer as well as a close link between research and teaching are its guiding principles. 

In the “Förderatlas” (Funding ranking) of the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG, German Research foundation) the University of Konstanz is ranked 1st in the category funds allocation per scientist. Research in the Department of Physics focuses on the physics of nanostructures, soft condensed matter physics, ultrafast optics in both theory and experiment as well as on quantum information and computational physics. The Department of Physics has a strong track record of research awards, hosts three collaborative research programs and more than 50 other research projects funded by the EU, the DFG, Federal Ministries, different foundations, and private sponsors
